While you are preparing to cook BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches, you should first ensure that the following are at your disposal:
- 1/4 pounds of pork shoulder roast.
- 1/5 to six whole cloves
- 1/3 tablespoons Smokey BBQ Rub
- 1/2 red onions that have been thinly sliced
- 1 cup of water
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary and
- 1/16 ounce bottle barbecue source.
Preparation of Smokey BBQ Rub
First, you need to have; a quarter cup of sugar, three teaspoons brown sugar, two teaspoons dark chili powder and the same amount for smoked paprika, garlic powder and onion powder one teaspoon each, one teaspoon fresh ground black pepper, one teaspoon each of kosher salt and dry mustard and finally a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper. You then combine the granulated and brown sugars, chili powder, garlic powder, pepper, salt, mustard and cayenne in a bowl and mix well before storing in an airtight container.
First, stud the roast with the cloves before rubbing with the Smokey BBQ Rub. You then place the roast in a slow cooker and toast with the onions. Next you cover the roast with two cups of water and slow cook for around eight to ten hours. Next, you remove the pork, discard the cloves and layer of fat as well as any water and grease remaining in the pot. When it cools, you use a fork to shred and pull the meat apart. Finally, you return the meat to the slow cooker with the barbecue sauce and you heat for one to two hours. After that you are ready to serve on your favorite roll.
